The volume of carbon oxide (CO), the major air pollutant emitted by automobile vehicles in Russia, sharply decreased in 2019 and reached over 3.6 million metric tons in 2020. Nitric oxides (NOx) were the second-leading pollutant by volume of emissions by cars, measured at approximately 950 thousand metric tons of NO2 equivalent.
