
People living a sedentary lifestyle in Italy 2020-2021, by region
Between 2020 and 2021, around 31.5 percent of adults in Italy was found to live a sedentary lifestyle. A sedentary lifestyle is here defined as not doing any physical activity in leisure time and not having a job, or having a sedentary job, or a job that even if requires physical effort is not continuous over time. This statistic highlights regional differences in this figure. According to data, this kind of lifestyle was more common among people living in Southern regions than among individuals from the rest of Italy. Sardinia stood out among other regions, with only 8.5 percent of its residents declaring to be sedentary.
