Deaths caused by external causes in Spain 2006-2021
In 2021, the annual number of deaths due to external causes in Spain reached about 16.8 thousand, up from around 16 thousand a year prior. External causes of death include those resulting from traffic accidents, unintentional falls, drowning, suicide, poisoning, or for drug abuse, among other external causes. Casualties of this type experienced an upward trend since 2012, after the annual number of deaths due to external causes reached approximately 14 thousand, the lowest value registered during the period.
