
From online education, online shopping, mobile banking, and even electronic government services, this shift to online services was only accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic. To ease the digital transition and overcome the pandemic-induced economic hardships, the South Korean Ministry of Science and ICT introduced the Korean Digital New Deal in June 2020, which relies heavily on utilizing new internet-based technologies. Even before this new policy, the country’s vulnerability to cybercrime (such as data theft, blackmail and other IT security breaches) had been increasing. However, hand in hand with new development plans, South Korea was also determined to strengthen its cyber security industry, even though it had already placed 4th in the Global Cybersecurity Index.
