Pork prices surge amid African swine fever outbreak
Pork prices soared by nearly 50 percent in Bulgaria in 2019, owing to the African swine fever outbreak, which resulted in the closure of three large pig farms and destroyed nearly 20 percent of the livestock, as per data from the Association of Meat Processors in Bulgaria. At the start of 2019, prices for different types of pig meat ranged between 6.50 to 7.20 leva a kilogram, gradually increasing to 10 leva by December.
