Coronavirus, the Czech construction sector was showing signs of recovery, with industry revenues projected to grow marginally from 10.9 billion U.S. dollars in 2018 to 11.2 billion U.S. dollars in 2023. However, depressed consumer and business activity, both domestically and internationally, is expected to stall this growth over the short to medium term. Consequently, revenues generated from architectural and engineering activities in the country are also expected to witness a decline. Even though pre-crisis estimates had them falling from 5.4 billion U.S. dollars in 2017 to 5.1 billion U.S. dollars in 2023, the revised estimates in the aftermath are expected to be more severe. Other factors contributing to this is the sharp fall in the number of building permits issued for residential property construction in the country, from 47,000 in 2008 to around 31,000 a decade later in 2018.
