Turkey is one of the most important textile manufacturing countries not only in Europe but also globally. Therefore, it is no surprise that revenues from its textile fibers manufacturing market are expected to witness strong growth over 2017-2022, valuing 10.3 billion U.S. dollars at the end of the period. In comparison, Germany, which is Turkey’s largest export partner, is expected to have a market value of only $1.8 billion. Turkey’s household consumption expenditure on textiles also grew at a rapid pace, more than doubling over the decade leading up to 2017.

The UK has for long been a key trading partner for Turkey, accounting for 6.1% of all imports in 2017 In terms of the textile imports the country is the second largest importer of textiles and apparel, importing products worth $2.4 billion in 2016, ahead of major markets such as Spain, Italy and the U.S. Imports of textile fibers, amounted to 23.9 million U.S. dollars in 2014.. However, Brexit related uncertainties have cast a shadow on the future of trade ties between the two countries, with the textiles, automobile and appliances markets facing the biggest risk.
