21.09.2026 Statista Combines Product and Technology Divisions: Shriram Ganesh Appointed to Lead the Integrated Organization
Hamburg, Germany – Effective September 1, 2026, Statista has merged its Product and Technology divisions into a single organization. Shriram Ganesh, previously Chief Product Officer, has taken over as Chief Product & Technology Officer (CPTO), assuming global responsibility for the combined organization. Dr. Ingo Schellhammer, who served as Chief Technology Officer for the past four years, officially stepped back from his responsibilities on August 31, 2026.
A unified Product and Technology organization for greater customer value
The strategic decision follows a clear pattern in Statista's own delivery record: the company’s Product and Technology teams have been working in ever-closer alignment as one organization rather than as two separate functions. This way of working has streamlined decision-making, improved efficiency, and accelerated execution, allowing Statista to respond more quickly to evolving customer needs. Merging both divisions under one accountable executive now constitutes the next logical step: it formalizes an increasingly integrated way of working that is already delivering results. At the same time, the new structure more closely aligns product strategy and technology delivery, bringing customer-informed product decisions and technological considerations together more effectively. As a result, Statista can bring both new capabilities and innovative data solutions to market faster, further strengthening the value it delivers to customers.
The integration also reflects a broader shift: as AI becomes increasingly important, the boundaries between product and technology continue to blur. The technologies behind a product – from platform capabilities to APIs and AI-powered functionality – increasingly shape both a product’s capabilities and the value customers derive from it. This development further underscores the relevance of Statista’s strategic direction, with Product and Technology working in close alignment as one organization.
A leader with deep expertise in both disciplines
"We would like to thank Dr. Ingo Schellhammer for his dedication and contributions to Statista’s development over the past years, both as CTO and as a trusted member of our Executive Committee," said Marc Berg, CEO of Statista. "At the same time, I’m particularly pleased that, with Shriram Ganesh, we have an executive who brings genuine domain expertise across both areas, making him ideally suited to lead the combined organization. He is a trained software engineer with more than ten years of back-end and platform engineering experience, and he has spent the last decade building customer-facing, API-first products at global scale. That combination means he can set the product ambition and make the architecture call that follows from it."
In his newly expanded role, Ganesh now oversees the entire path from platform and back-end architecture to the customer-facing product experience.
"In an AI-driven market, the questions of what we build and how we build it cannot be answered separately – they are one craft. Under one organization, we can move from idea to production faster, direct our capacity more purposefully to where it creates the greatest customer value, and give our teams a single, clear direction," stated Shriram Ganesh, Chief Product & Technology Officer at Statista. “Over the coming weeks, I will be working closely with the senior leaders across Product and Technology to shape the new organization while building on the robust technological foundation Dr. Ingo Schellhammer and his leadership team have created.”
Dr. Ingo Schellhammer, who had been a member of Statista's Executive Committee since 2022, will continue to provide support in the background until the end of the year to ensure a smooth transition. "Over the past four years, I have successfully enhanced Statista's technological foundation, built a scalable engineering organization and launched AI-powered data discovery services like ResearchAI for our customers," said Dr. Ingo Schellhammer, former Chief Technology Officer at Statista. "Given how Product and Technology teams already work together, integrating both divisions is the logical next step for Statista. I fully back this approach and wish Shriram Ganesh all the best for his new chapter."
