The number of individuals working for enterprises active in the paper and cardboard packaging sector in Italy increased steadily between 2015 and 2021. This figure reached 5,480 people in 2021. That year, the leading company in the paper packaging sector in the country was the Italian branch of the multinational company Smurfit Kappa Italia S.p.A..

* Companies with significant (statutory) turnover, a degree of specialization in the sector greater than or equal to 50 percent of the total turnover, and active in all the financial years considered have been taken into account for the calculation. The calculation also takes into account the balance of power between companies. For example, companies with a too high turnover were discarded, so that their balance sheet structure does not excessively influence the average sector indicators.
