Industrial robotics market sales value worldwide 2017-2021, by application area

Worldwide, electronics and automotive cover more than half of the industrial robotics market. In 2018, the sales value of robots in the eletronics industry is estimated to amount to 5.9 billion U.S. dollars and in the automotive industry to 4.98 billion U.S. dollars, while, the sales value of the whole industrial robotics market is expected to amount to 16.42 billion U.S. dollars.

The electronics robotics market is the largest industrial robotics market and in addition the fastest growing one, with China at the forefront. The second-largest robotics industry, automotive, is estimated to keep growing due to an increased complexity and degree of individualization in car production. However, a stagnating or even decreasing trend can be seen in some major markets.

In industrial robotics, hardware and software are often sold separately, with an increasing tendency to be sold together in the future. The current market therefore does not include the cost of software, peripherals, and systems engineering.

The DossierPlus on robotics provides further information on the methodology and the global robotics market, divided into industrial and service robotics, and application areas.
