In a survey conducted in 2019 about the Australian publics' opinion on the future of coal-fired power stations in the country, 57 percent of respondents who were affiliated with the Liberal political party stated that they should be phased out gradually so costs could be managed over time. In contrast, only 12 percent of Liberal respondents stated that coal did not need to be replaced by other energy sources such as wind or solar power.
