Greenhouse gas emissions in the European Union 2021, by country
Germany was the biggest contributor to EU greenhouse gas emissions in 2021, having released the equivalent of 782 million metric tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. This was almost twice the GHG emissions produced by France, the second-largest emitter. Since 1990, the majority of EU members have experienced considerable greenhouse gas emissions reductions.
