The volume of e-commerce tertiary paper packaging is estimated to amount to about 2,593 thousand metric tons in 2019 and is forecasted to grow to 2,873 thousand metric tons in 2020. Forecasts for the following year indicate that 4,222 thousand metric tons of paper package material will be consumed in the e-commerce sector by 2025.

The number of parcels sent is taken from pitney bowes parcel shipping index , extrapolating from data on ecommerce penetration in European countries and forecasted along the expectations for the e-commerce development. The average weight of a parcel package is based on the 14 most important product groups of European e-commerce.
