In 2021, Guantánamo was the region with the highest maternal mortality rate in Cuba, with nearly 313 deaths per 100,000 live births. Ciego de Ávila and Camagüey followed, with a rate of around 310.6 maternal deaths and 283.4 mother deaths per 100,000 live births. In 2020, the most common cause of maternal mortality per 100,000 live births in Cuba was postpartum problems.
