In 2020, approximately 0.29 million hectares of land were burnt due to forest fire in Indonesia, significantly decreased in comparison to previous years. Forest fires in Indonesia typically take place in Borneo, almost 100 thousand hectares of land were burnt in South Borneo in 2018. The burning usually reaches its maximum point from July to October during Indonesia's dry season. Indonesia’s government has committed to reduce emissions by 29 percent until by 2030. This ambition will be elusive if the forest fires continue to occur every year.
