According to a survey conducted in Japan from January to March 2019, close to 46 percent of respondents who regularly played video games for more than six hours on a weekday found it difficult to stop playing at times when they were supposed to stop. This tendency was much less pronounced among respondents who played video games for shorter durations. The survey was conducted with a focus on gaming disorders. Gaming disorders were recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a medical condition in May 2019.
