Share of deforested area in Russia in 2019, by cause

Between May and October 2019, the largest share of total forest plantations destroyed in Russia was swelled by forest fires, measuring at approximately 39 percent. The second most common reason for destruction was harm caused by insect pests, which accounted for nearly 23 percent of the total destroyed area. Over 12 months of 2018, forest fires caused almost 45 percent of the total forest area destroyed in the country.
