Environmental protection spending by type Russia 2021

The total annual spending on protection of environment in Russia gradually increased in 2021. The largest share of expenditure belonged to wastewater treatment, on which almost 292.76 billion Russian rubles were allocated. The amount of finances spent on air protection and prevention of climate change increased from the previous year, reaching over 203.3 billion Russian rubles.

The source defined environmental protection expenditure as the sum of expenses of enterprises (organizations, institutions), individual entrepreneurs, the government (budgets of the Russian Federation, subjects of the RF, municipal institutions) targeted at protection of nature (collection, treatment, reduction, prevention, or removal of pollutants, a pollution itself, or any other types and elements of environmental degradation that represent a consequence of entrepreneurial activity) that are funded by all financial sources.

It includes investments in the fixed capital targeted at protection of environment and rational use of natural resources as well as running costs.
