Economic impact of forest fires in Russia 2016-2019

The economic loss from forest fires in Russia was measured at 14.4 billion Russian rubles in 2019. In the previous year, damages due to forest fires cost the country 20 billion Russian rubles, despite a higher number of forest fires and a larger area swelled by them. In the Sakha (Yakutia) Republic alone, the swelled area was nearly 2.4 million hectares over the first seven months of 2019.
