Number of global unicorn exits 2006-2022
More unicorns exited via IPO or acquisition between January and December 2021 than in any entire year since 2006. The number of global unicorn exits during 2021 reached 141. Unicorns are private companies that are valued at one billion U.S. dollars or more. If that company subsequently goes public or is acquired, it is no longer referred to as a unicorn. When a unicorn company does one of these two things, it is called an exit.
