Young Chinese people living in more developed cities tend to have higher expectations for their dating partner's monthly income. According to a survey on the dating culture among the post-1995 generation in China conducted in 2019, around 59 percent of the single respondents from Shanghai stated that they wanted their future partner to earn more than 10,000 yuan a month. In the same survey, about 52 percent of the respondents from Beijing shared the same view. In 2018, the average monthly salary amounted to around 6,871.8 yuan in China.
