In 2021, property and casualty insurance premiums written in the United States increased to 715.9 billion U.S. dollars, while life and annuity premiums stood at 635.7 billion U.S. dollars. The market for the latter led the way for many years, but this has now reversed with the fall in premiums written from 2019 to 2020 owing to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
