
Global lithium consumption share by region 2019
China was the world's largest consumer of lithium as of 2019, having accounted for a 39 percent share of global lithium consumption. South Korea and Japan followed as the second and third largest consumers of the metal, which is used to produce high-performing batteries, at a 20 percent and 18 percent share of global lithium consumption, respectively. All three countries are major manufacturers of batteries and electronics, which accounts for their high share of lithium consumption.
