Japan: number of foreign residents by nationality 1984-2021

Over 716.6 thousand people from China were living in Japan as of 2021. Chinese nationals overtook Koreans as the largest minority in the country in 2007. The Vietnamese population recorded strong growth in recent years, as many people from Vietnam were entering Japan as participants of the technical intern training program or as students.
