Production of wheat in South Africa 2000-2021
In 2021, wheat production in South Africa was approximately 2.3 million metric tons, an increment of roughly 6.5 percent compared to 2020. In 2001, wheat production was at its highest amounting to about 2.5 million metric tons. Furthermore, between 2000 and 2021, five major drops can be observed in 2003, 2010, 2015, 2017, and 2019. These significant declines can be linked to an increase in the price of wheat, increased domestic consumption, and below-average rainfall.
