
Distribution of harvested area for cereals in Tanzania 2016-2017
Compared to other cereals, maize covered the largest harvested area in Tanzania for the 2016/2017 crop season. The grain accounted for 71.5 percent of the total harvested area, with 4.9 million hectares harvested in Tanzania Mainland, and 4.9 thousand hectares in Zanzibar, the semi-autonomous region in Tanzania. After maize, rice occupied the second largest harvested area, approximately one million hectares (14.5 percent of total).
