China: weekly YoY growth in Airbnb bookings in Beijing

According to data from Airbtics, the Airbnb bookings in Beijing had a year-on-year growth of 17.1 percent on the week of January 5, 2020. However, it swiftly plunged to 1.4 percent of the same period in the previous year on the week of February 16th of 2020. The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in late January and the travel restrictions stroke the hospitality industry.

YoY growth refers to share of bookings received in comparison to the same period last year. For example, YoY growth 100% means Airbnb received the same amount of bookings compared to last year. YoY growth of 117.1% in week 1 2020 means there were 17.1% more bookings than in week 1 2019.

Data is based on the review data scraped by Airbtics from Airbnb.com between September 7-22, 2020. Limitation: 80-95% of active listings.
"Active listing" here means a listing that has its first review before 2019 April and its last review after 2020 March, so that the booking difference between 2019 and 2020 can be compared in a more fair way.

The dates refers to the week ending (e.g. Jan 12, 2020 shows the YOY change in number of bookings between January 6-12, 2020).
