Years from discovery to first production of select diamond mines worldwide 1998-2017
The Ekati diamond mine, located in Canada and owned by the Canadian mining company Dominion was discovered in 1991, and only started producing diamonds seven years later in 1998. Other mines take even longer to start producing, such as the Russian diamond mine Grib, which was discovered in 1998 and had its first diamond production in 2013.
