In 2020, the sales value of smart televisions in China reached nearly 625 billion yuan and was forecasted to increase to 672 billion yuan by 2021. Since 2017, however, the growth rate of sales value has been decreasing from 14 percent in 2017 to just over eight percent in 2020.

How popular are smart televisions?

Smart television sets are very popular among Chinese consumers. Around half of Chinese households admitted to using a smart TV daily. Furthermore, not only was the usage rate high, but consumers also spent a significant share of their day watching television on their smart TVs.

On demand videos on smart TVs

Smart TVs have a variety of functions, but the most popular among consumers in China was video-on-demand services. Compared to other video services, such as video downloads, video streaming, and pay-per-view, video-on-demand had the most users in China. Popular platforms in China include Youku Tudou, Iqiyi, and Tencent Video.
