The processes involved in the production of food accounts for approximately one quarter of global greenhouse gas emissions. The largest share of emissions from food production comes from livestock and fisheries, at 31 percent. Raising animals for meat and dairy is a significant contributor to global greenhouse gas emissions, with emissions from red meat production particularly high.
