According to a survey on illegal streaming conducted in September 2019, the main reason for illegal streaming in Indonesia was people's preference for watching premium content through illegal torrent websites, with 63 percent of respondents saying so. In the fight against online piracy, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology of Indonesia had blocked approximately 1,000 websites due to content piracy since July of the same year.
