How free Angolans feel to speak their minds 2019
Nearly half of Angolans do not feel free to say what they think. As reported by a survey done in 2019, 32 percent of respondents did not feel free at all to speak their minds in the country, while 16 percent did not feel very free regarding the same situation. Fewer than a half of them indicated that they felt somewhat free (26 percent) or completely free (20 percent). Since Angola's independence in 1975, the same political party has been in power in the country. In most recent years, restrictions on the press and civil society have been eased. However, challenges concerning political dissent persist, according to human rights entities.
