The majority of U.S. states had achieved transportation-related carbon dioxide emission reductions as of 2020, relative to 2005 levels. The largest reduction during this time was observed in New Jersey, where transportation emissions fell 44 percent. The U.S. has set an economy-wide target to reduce its net greenhouse gas emissions by 50 to 52 below 2005 levels in 2030.
