U.S. electric power sector CO₂ emissions projections 2022-2050, by fuel
Under a business-as-usual scenario, coal-fired electric power emissions in the United States are projected to decrease by approximately 71 percent below 2022 levels by 2050. This would see emissions from this source drop to 244 million metric tons (MtCO₂). U.S. coal consumption for electricity generation has fallen considerably in recent years as the U.S. looks to phase-out this polluting energy source.
