Number of migrants in detention centers in Libya 2021, by center
In February 2021, most migrants in detention centers (DCs) in Libya were in Tripoli, the capital city. There, over 1,600 migrants were held in detention in Al-Mabani Center, while other 799 were in Triq al Sika (also spelt Tarek al Sika). Libyan DCs are known as places where human rights are constantly violated. Migrants, refugees, and asylum-seekers who were held in the centers report overcrowded spaces, food shortage, lack of sanitation and health care, forced labor, as well as acts of physical violence and sexual abuse.
