In 2020, the average turnover rate for registered nurses that work in hospitals across the United States stood at 18.7 percent. According to this survey, the percentage of registered nurses (RN) that leave hospitals ranged from roughly 10 percent to over 24 percent, depending on the discipline. The highest RN turnover was found among Step Down and Behavior Health services. On the other hand, RN turnover was the lowest in Burn Centers and Surgical services.
