There were 51,162 foreign students in Egypt as of 2016, of which just over 9.8 thousand were from East Asia and the Pacific, the largest region. Sub-Saharan Africa and the Arab states followed with slightly over three thousand and nine hundred students, respectively. It is worth noting that around 35.7 thousand students were counted as being from unknown regions.
