Japan: cumulative outstanding amount of government bond by type 2022

The cumulative outstanding amount of the public bond in Japan was planned to reach approximately one quadrillion Japanese yen by the end of the 2022 fiscal year. Due to the impact of the corona disease (COVID-19) pandemic, the overall outstanding amount leaped by about 60 trillion from fiscal 2019 to 2020.

The outstanding amount of the government bond includes construction bonds, special deficit-financing bonds, and reconstruction bonds. The outstanding special deficit-financing bond includes refunding bonds for long-term debts transferred from JNR Settlement Corporation and the National Forest Service, etc., ad-hoc special deficit-financing bonds, tax reduction-related special deficit-financing bonds, and pension-related special deficit-financing bonds.
