As of 2023, almost 60 percent of global sovereign wealth fund (SWF) assets were managed through equity and fixed-income securities. Illiquid alternatives accounted for an additional 23 percent of total assets, while the remaining securities combined accounted for less than 20 percent of global assets.

Sovereign wealth funds (SWFs) are state-owned investment funds that serve different purposes according to their mandate. Sovereign strategic funds (also known as development funds) are used to foster socio-economic development and generating a positive return while investing in strategic domestic sectors.
