Africa: passport visa free score by country 2022

The citizens of Seychelles had the most powerful passports in Africa as of January 2022. The country received a visa free score of 152 points. Mauritius and South Africa followed with a score of 146 and 104, respectively. In contrast, Libyan and Somalian citizens had the weakest passports on the continent.

The Henley Passport Index ranks the passports of 199 countries worldwide.
The total score is calculated by cross-checking each passport against 227 possible travel destinations. "Each passport receives a score with value = 1, if passport holders do not require a visa (for each travel destination) or if they can obtain a visa on arrival, a visitor’s permit, or an electronic travel authority (ETA) when entering the destination."
"Where a visa is required, or where a passport holder has to obtain a government-approved electronic visa (e-Visa) before departure, a score with value = 0 is assigned to the passport. The same score is also assigned if passport holders need pre-departure government approval for a visa on arrival."
