Leading fertilizer companies globally 2022, by market capitalization

As of July 2022, Nutrien was the largest fertilizer company worldwide based on market capitalization, at 42.13 billion U.S. dollars. Wesfarmers ranked second at the time, with a market capitalization of 35.86 billion dollars. Wesfarmers is an Australian conglomerate focusing on different business segments such as retail, chemicals, and fertilizers.

Nutrien is the global leader in the fertilizer sector

Nutrien was formed in 2018 after PotashCorp and Agrium completed a merger of equals. Currently, Nutrien is the largest producer of potash worldwide with a plant capacity of over 20 million metric tons of potassium chloride. The Canadian company also ranks as the third-largest manufacturer of nitrogen fertilizer after companies CF Industries and Yara. In 2021, Nutrien generated a revenue of roughly 27.8 billion U.S. dollars, a figure that has presented a growing trend during the last few years.

CF industries: largest producer of nitrogen fertilizer

CF Industries Holdings, Inc. is a U.S. manufacturer and distributor of agricultural fertilizers based in Chicago. It is by far the company with the largest plant capacity of ammonia in the United States and worldwide. CF Industries’ revenue has fluctuated during the last decade, registering lower values in recent years. In 2021, however, sales picked up and reached the highest value recorded during the last decade at 6.5 billion U.S. dollars.
