Share of waste treated per disposal method APAC 2018, by subregion
In 2018, 75 percent of waste in Southeast Asia was disposed of on open dumps, while four percent of the region's waste was disposed of on landfills. While both being excavated pieces of land, landfills are a more sanitary option regulated by the government. In East Asia and the Pacific region, disposal by landfills made up 46 percent of overall waste disposal in 2018. Around 24 percent of the region's waste was incinerated that year.
