In 2021, the share of gas in the total electricity generation in Japan amounted to over 32 percent. The figure peaked in 2014 at over 41 percent, but indicated a downwards trend in recent years. To reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the Japanese government currently works on replacing fossil fuels with renewable energy sources.
