According to a survey carried out in May 2022, less than six months before the Brazilian presidential elections, former president Luiz Iznácio Lula da Silva was particularly popular among women, with 51 percent of female respondents claiming that they would vote for him in the first round of the elections. The share of males surveyed that said that they would vote for Lula was only four percentage points higher that those who intended to vote for Jair Bolsonaro. As for voting intention by region, nearly half of respondents in the Central-West region would vote for the incumbent president and candidate of the Liberal Party (PL), making this the region where Jair Bolsonaro gathered his largest share of potential voters.
