Battery storage usage factor in the U.S. 2013-2021

In 2021, the usage factor of utility-scale battery storage generators in the United States stood at 4.6 percent, the lowest average recorded in five years. Between 2013 and 2017, the average annual usage factor of battery storage generators in the country grew continuously, peaking at 6.8 percent in the latter year.
Despite the decline in usage factor that year, battery capacity additions in the U.S. surpassed three gigawatts in 2021.
