Consumers witnessing false information on certain topics worldwide 2022, by region
A study held in early 2022 found that between 45 and 55 percent of surveyed consumers worldwide had witnessed false or misleading COVID-19 news in the week running to the survey, with North Americans and Latin Americans most affected. Suspicious or fake political news was also a problem, particularly in LATAM and Africa, and African consumers were also the most likely to have encountered false information products, i.e. scams.
