Tech company intervention on fake news U.S. 2018-2021
Public opinion on restricting fake news is changing. A 2021 survey held in the United States revealed that 59 percent of adults believed tech companies should do more to stop the spread of fake news even if this meant limiting freedom of information. The percentage of survey participants who felt this way was up by three percent from the 2018 result, exemplifying the growing concern towards fake news and increased interest in intervention from bodies and organizations outside the news industry itself.
