In 2021, private and foreign sources accounted for about 76 percent of total research and development (R&D) spending in South Korea. The government and private sector accounted for the remaining 24 percent. The government's share of R&D spending was relatively low compared with other countries in the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
