Clean energy sources could account for more than 80 percent of electricity generation in the United States by 2030, in a low emissions scenario. The projection takes into account the policiy provisions under the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), approved in August 2022. Under the IRA, between 60 and 81 percent of electricity generation could originate from clean sources by the end of the decade, in contrast to 46 to 72 percent forecast under existing policy at the time.
