WWII: engine power of selected combat aircraft 1939-1945
During the Second World War, the Heinkel He-177 Greif of the German Luftwaffe was a heavy bomber carrying two 2,7000 horsepower engines. The bomber was the only long-range, heavy bomber to be deployed by the Luftwaffe during the war, and was designed for conducting bombing missions of production centers deep inside Soviet territory. However, development of the engines caused significant delays for the Luftwaffe, and the He-111 was often the favored option due to persistent engine troubles even after the He-177 became operational.
